5 NDFB(S) cadres arrested in joint op

GUWAHATI: In yet another blow to the Songbijit faction of NDFB, five of its cadres were apprehended in a joint operation by the troops of Army’s Red Horns Division and police on Sunday in the Ripu reserve forest area of Kokrajhar.
Defence PRO Lt Col S Newton said the operation was conducted on specific intelligence provided by Gajraj Corps military intelligence unit.Out of the five, one is an important member of the outfit. Daneshwar Basumatary alias B Dapung alias Ustad is a trained cadre of NDFB(S). Two pistols and three hand grenades were recovered during the operation.Gajraj Corps military intelligence unit at Darrangamela in Tamulpur. Laoga Basumatary and Girish Soren were apprehended. Two hand grenades, eight detonators with fuses were found on them.Assam Police and other para military forces has dealt a severe blow to the nefarious designs and activities of the terrorist organizations active in the region. This is a prime example of highly coordinated and synergized operations conducted by the unified command,” Lt Col Newton said.Durga Boro was nabbed at Manas reserve forest in Chirang district on Saturday. Incriminating documents containing instructions on tax collection and extortion, appointment list and details of weapons and ammunition with respect to NDFB(S) were recovered during the operation, the PRO said.
