Located in Chengmai county, south China's Hainan province, Luo Yi village is an historical and cultural village with a history of more than 800 years. It is said that the village was founded in 1256, at the end of the Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1279).
Chengmai was honored as the "longevity town" of China and the world respectively in 2009 and 2012. Luoyi village ranks third among the 10 largest longevity villages in Chengmai.
Of the 3,800 villagers, 126 are aged from 80 to 89, and 27 are above 90 years old.
Luoyi village is located in a volcanic rock area, so its water and soil contain rich selenium, which is said to help prevent aging.
About 120 stone houses stand around the two pools in the village. Houses and lanes in the village are all built with volcanic rocks.
