Govt falling short on tall claims: Tharoor
AHMEDABAD: In a tight spot after praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Jaipur Literature Festival (JLF), Congress MP Shashi Tharoor treaded cautiously while delivering a talk at IIM Ahmedabad here on Sunday. While he praised Modi as an orator and for his vision for development, he added in the same breath that his government was ‘name changing’ and not ‘game changing’.
“I don’t disagree with him (Modi) on most of issues.
His vision for country’s development is different from other leaders but his announcements are not in sync with his way of working,” said Tharoor while speaking at Chaos, an IIM-A event.
“Modi is a very good orator and if you read my books written 20 years back, it would look like Modi was my script writer,” added Tharoor.
The former Union minister said, “I accept Swachchh Bharat Mission. I took up cleanliness drive at coastal areas in my constituency and set up a biogas plant but if I have to take it on larger scale, I need the Centre’s assistance and budgetary provisions which is not there. He also asked to adopt villages but there are no funds for it. It is not a game changing but a name changing government.”
