GURGAON: Ramesh Chandra Mishra, an additional director general of police posted with the Haryana vigilance bureau in Gurgaon, has been nominated for the President's Police medal for distinguished service and will be be conferred the award on Republic Day.
Mishra is a 1989-batch IPS officer and his earlier postings included those of additional and district superintendents of police in Jind, Narnual and Panchkula.
He is credited with introducing various measures for prevention of crime.
Mishra was also posted as additional inspector general (administration) headquarters, deputy IG (modernization and security) and IG (prisons, administration, modernization and CID).
The 50-year-old was rewarded with the police medal for meritorious service in 2007. Other honours won by him include the Human Rights Millennium Award from the International Association of Educators for World Peace.
"I believe in work-life balance," Mishra told TOI on Sunday. "I have been healthy because I have been an active sportsmen and won prizes too. Besides this, I enjoy writing and believe it is important to focus on both fitness and intellect if you want to succeed professionally," he added.
Mishra has authored several books, including The Punjab Police Rules (1934) in Hindi, Crime Trends And Criminal Justice and Naya Sipahi, a book for new recruits.
Eight Haryana Police personnel will also be awarded medals for meritorious service this Republic Day - Virender Singh, DSP Sirsa, inspector Kamal Singh of Haryana armed police, inspector Virender Singh from Faridabad, sub-inspector Sushil Kumar, ASI Gurmeet Singh and ASI Manoj Kumar of Panchkula, ASI Kulbir Singh of Ambala and ASI Ram Kumar of Faridabad Police.
