GURGAON: Police have roped in private security guards for additional security in and around the Mall Mile on MG Road on Republic Day, anticipating a huge footfall surge.
At least 80 additional private guards have been appointed to add to the 200 that are already deployed. The private security guards were roped in since the police force is shortstaffed. Moreover, at least 200 policemen are focusing on securing members and other staff of US President Barack Obama's delegation staying at two hotels in Udyog Vihar.

"We met the private security company regarding the issue and explained the sensitivity of the Republic Day and how a crowded mall can be an easy target. Following this, they agreed to pitch in with more guards with immediate effect," said inspector Ashok Kumar, SHO of sector 29 police station.
The private security deployment has also been increased in Cyber City, where at least 750 guards will be on duty instead of the usual 700.
"Malls will be extremely crowded. So, we increased manpower accordingly. We will be handling both security inside the mall as well on the road on MG Road. In Cyber City, PCR vans patrol the roads," said Atul Sharma, general manager (operations) at SLV Security Services Private Limited.
