A Kerala-based footwear manufacturer reportedly plans to avenge Gandhi-Bot beer through 'Washington Slipper' -- slippers with George Washington's photo displayed prominently on them.

A viral photo spreading on social media sites like wildfire -- which could eventually turn out to be yet another internet hoax-- mentions that the new product is in retaliation to the Connecticut-based brewing company's Gandhi-Bot beers cans, which had the name and image of Mahatma Gandhi on them.

The 'news' surfaced on the internet just days ahead of US president Barack Obama's India visit for the 66th Republic Day parade on 26 January in New Delhi.

Reports also suggest that the prototypes of the new slippers will be displayed near the US embassy in New Delhi on Republic Day, according to Deccan Chronicle, which reported without citing any source.

However, since the name of the footwear manufacturer is not revealed and high security measures have been arranged in the capital state for Obama, this news, in all likelihood should be viewed as a rumour or a prank.

A few weeks ago, Indian advocate S Janardhan Goud had filed a petition against the New England brewing company under the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971, and Section 124-A of IPC for reportedly hurting the sentiments of Indians by using the name and image of the Father of the Nation for one of its beers.

Following this, the company apologised and claimed that it was only trying to pay homage to Gandhi and did not intend to offend anyone.

"Gandhi-Bot is an intensely hopped Double India Pale Ale, with a blend of three varieties of American hops. Aromatic and fully vegetarian, Gandhi-Bot is an ideal aid for self-purification and the seeking of truth and love," reads the description of the product.
