LK Advani, Tarak Mehta, Dr. Tejas Patel, Shri Gunvant Shah and Dr. Hargovind Trivedi are the names of Padma award winners from Gujarat this year, as per a list announced Ministry of Home Affairs today evening. LK Advani has been introduced in the list as an awardee from Gujarat, however he is from Sindh and based in Delhi. He is elected as Lok Sabha MP from Gandhinagar seat in Gujarat. Tarak Mehta is veteran author based in Ahmedabad. Dr. Tejas Patel is heart surgeon with many achievements. He is based and active in Ahmedabad. Shri Gunvant Shah is veteran Gujarati author and columnist based in Vadodara. Dr. HL Trivedi is from Ahmedabad. He is wellknown Kidney doctor.

Padma Awards – one of the highest civilian Awards of the country, are conferred in three categories, namely, Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri. The Awards
are given in various disciplines/ fields of activities, viz.- art, social work, public affairs, science and engineering, trade and industry, medicine, literature and education, sports, civil service, etc. ‘Padma Vibhushan’ is awarded for exceptional and distinguished service; ‘Padma Bhushan’ for distinguished service of high order and ‘Padma Shri’ for distinguished service in any field. The awards are announced on the occasion of Republic Day every year.

These awards are conferred by the President of India at ceremonial functions which are held at Rashtrapati Bhawan usually around March/ April every year. This year the President of India has approved conferment of Padma Awards to 104 persons as per the list below. The list comprises of 9 Padma Vibhushan, 20 Padma Bhushan and 75 Padma Shri Awardees. 17 of the awardees are women and the list also includes 17 persons from the category of foreigners, NRIs, PIOs and 4 Posthumous awardees.
