INDORE: At an age when people just begin to get acquainted with literature, a final year computer science engineering graduate studying at a private college has written a 184-pager novel, which is getting much attention from youths.
Jaimeet Patel’s ‘An exceptional case’ revolves around a guy who is unstable, uses short cuts and ends up creating problems for himself which forces him to attempt suicide.
Filled with romance, fantasy, suspense and motivation, the novel mirrors the life of today’s youngsters.
“Most young writers try their hand at writing romance novels. I wanted to work on a realistic and fresh theme. I was not looking at the commercial aspect and do not get bogged down by criticism. It is my first book and my work will definitely improve based on the feedback I will get,” said Patel.
A New Delhi-based publisher had published 5,000 copies of its first edition in September, 2014. “Nearly 4,000 copies have been sold so far. If necessary a second edition will also be published,” added Patel.
When asked about how he developed this keen interest in writing, he said, “In school I never read novels. I was first introduced to books by my roommates who are voracious readers. In second year of engineering, I decided to write a novel and it took me almost two years to finish it”.
Originally from Guna district of Madhya Pradesh, Patel is now working on his next novel titled ‘Sex, drugs and politics’, which he aims to get published in 2016. Apart from writing, Patel has a keen interest in astrophysics, photography and football.
