THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:
Thiruvananthapuram division of Southern Railway had conducted ticket checking drives on January 22 and 23 at Thiruvananthapuram Central and Ernakulam Junction stations.
Around 1,000 ticketless were identified during the drive. Penalty to the tune of Rs 2.95 lakh were collected inclusive of Rs 95,000, from improper season ticket holders. tnn
As per the statement, the surprise check revealed that a number of students were travelling by train using either expired or tampered season tickets.
For reducing the queue length, the railways has installed automatic ticket vending machines at major stations and current
reservation counters for obtaining confirmed booking for short distance travel after charting of long distance trains. Current Reservation Counters are available at Thiruvananthapuram Central and Ernakulam Junction.
