In an attempt to battle back the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and to attract youths, especially first-time voters, Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has roped in volunteers of its students’ wing to hold flash mob performances and roadside concerts in the city.

Chhatra Yuva Sangharsh Samiti (CYSS) has coined the term ‘Dance for Democracy’ for the flash mobs, while the concerts are being called ‘Play for Change’.

“Students of Std XI and XII are performing flash mobs and dancing to the tune of various patriotic songs before ending with the title track of our campaign, ‘5-Saal Kejriwal’, sung by Vishal Dadlani,” said Vansh Saluja, a social media volunteer with AAP.

The ‘Play for Change’ initiative will see volunteers perform songs at public places and markets.

“CYSS volunteers play the guitar and sing songs at public places. They also carry posters and banners on the policies of the party. They are being supported by AAP members like Dadlani, Gul Panag and Raghu Ram who have been doing roadshows as well. This is an innovative way to attract the young voters,” added Vansh.

The other programmes, which are more conventional, include ‘Bus Campaign’ and ‘Metro Wave’ wherein the volunteers mainly distribute pamphlets among the commuters.

“We have our youth workers who are distributing pamphlets among the daily commuters on buses and Metro trains to increase our visibility on the ground,” another party volunteer said.

As part of the ‘Metro Wave’ drive, AAP volunteers board the Metro and talk to the people to assess the situation and take their suggestions, the volunteer added.
