Mundhe frustrates Delhi
All-rounder’s timely century puts paid to visitors’ aspirations of an outright win.

Maharashtra all-rounder Shrikant Mundhe's fiery century made sure the hosts ended their Group B Ranji match Delhi with three points. The match ended in a draw after Mundhe’s century.

Batting at No 8, Mundhe went after the bowlers. His innings included five sixes and 12 boundaries. Maharashtra were eventually bowled out for 368 and Delhi were given a target of 392. The ended with 78 for three.

Munde has emerged as the top run-getter for Maharashtra this season with 404 runs in nine innings with an average of 57.71. He is also the second highest wicket taker (21) wickets after Samad Fallah (25).

When Delhi came in to bat, off-spinner Chirag Khurana managed to take two early wickets to put Delhi under immediate pressure.

Khurana was awarded man-of-the-match for his all-round performance. He scored 135 (55 & 80) runs and took four wickets, including the wickets of Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Chand and Sharma.

“This looked like one of the best batting wickets where we failed to get a big score. Due credit to Maharashtra bowlers who bowled tightly and kept taking wickets," Delhi coach Vijay Dahiya said. “We had a good chance but they definitely played better and we kept giving them chances,” Dahiya added.

With three points from this match, Maharashtra are at No 2 position with 19 points in Group B after Delhi (31 points). Maharashtra will play their next match against sixth-placed Gujarat (15 points) in Valsad from January 29.
