MLB: Gonzalez agrees to 1-year deal with Astros

Infielder Marwin Gonzalez and the Astros agreed to a one-year contract for $1.06 million Friday.

Gonzalez, 25, hit .277 with six homers and 23 RBIs in 285 at-bats last season when he made $504,500. He had asked for $1.4 million in arbitration and had been offered $900,000.

The Astros have agreed to contracts with all their arbitration-eligible players.

Vogelsong gets $4 million deal

Ryan Vogelsong visited the Astros this week and said he had an uncomfortable feeling about how he might fit in, and he had discussions with other teams during the course of this offseason.

Each time, everything pointed him back to the Bay Area and the Giants.

Vogelsong just needed some patience as the Giants figured out the rest of their roster.

The free-agent righthander finalized a $4 million, one-year contract to stay with San Francisco, a deal includes an additional $3 million in performance bonuses.

Vogelsong, 37, went 8-13 with a 4.00 ERA in 32 starts last season.

Odds and ends

The Cubs and recently acquired outfielder Dexter Fowler agreed to a $9.5 million, one-year contract, avoiding arbitration. … Free-agent outfielder and 10-time All-Star Ichiro Suzuki, 41, and the Marlins have agreed to a $2 million, one-year contract, pending a physical, a person with knowledge of the situation told the Associated Press. … Athletics closer Sean Doolittle is unlikely to be ready for the start of the season because of a slight tear in the rotator cuff in his left shoulder along with considerable inflammation and irritation in the area. … The Braves and outfielder Jonny Gomes agreed Thursday to a $4 million, one-year contract with a vesting option, a deal subject to a successful physical before it can be finalized.
