Bharatiya Janata Party leader Subramanian Swamy on Saturday hoped that the Ram temple will be built at Ayodhya and work will start early next year.

At the three-day World Ramayana Conference, organised by the Ramayana Research Foundation, where 50 scholars are participating, he said the path leading to Ayodhya should be done up for pilgrims. It could be made beneficial for trekkers too.

He also hoped that since the case has been won in the Supreme Court, the government would declare ‘Rama Sethu’a national monument shortly and arrangements should be made for people to visit ‘Rama Sethu’. He also urged people to read the texts and scriptures to understand the context and realise the geographical references for establishing the truth.

On popularising the Ramayana , Mr. Swamy said if it is indeed to be taken to children across the country, it should be re-written in a new modern idiom so that this generation is able to connect and relate to it.

“The Ramayana is our heritage which has to be taught in a new modern language to help preserve the treasure,” he added.

Later, a debate led by Dr. Haridas Bhat, Dr. Mani Dravid, and Dr. Bannanje Govindacharya on several aspects of the Ramayana was held.
