The Chhattisgarh government on Saturday announced a one-day state mourning following the death of Saudi Arabia’s King Abdulla.
This is probably the first time the Raman Singh government has announced state mourning. His 11-year tenure has seen deaths of several heads of states, and many massive attacks by Maoists, including the Darbha ambush in which the top leadership of the state Congress was eliminated.
But the state government never announced state mourning. Expressing grief at the Saudi king’s death, Chief Minister Raman Singh tweeted: “World has lost a great personality in the form of Shri Abdulla. I express my condolence on his demise. May his soul rest in peace forever.” “1 day state mourning is announced in Chhattisgarh on sad demise of Saudi Arab’s Head of the State Shri Abidulla Bin Abdulla Ajiz Al-Saud,” Singh tweeted.
