BENGALURU: AICC general secretary in charge of Karnataka Digvijaya Singh on Saturday firmly backed the Siddaramaiah government, which is under fire from the opposition over the Arkavathy Layout denotification controversy, and accused the BJP of using the Raj Bhavan for "political gains".
Singh slammed the BJP for trying to meet governor Vajubhai R Vala to seek permission to prosecute chief minister Siddaramaiah.
Singh said the permission cannot be given at this moment as there is no FIR against the CM or any substance in the allegation. "It is nothing but a political gimmick of the BJP," he said.
A day after they failed meet the governor, BJP leaders made yet another unsuccessful attempt to meet Vala on Saturday.
Singh, who was on a visit to the city, reportedly told Siddaramaiah "not-to-worry" over the BJP's allegation and to just concentrate on the administration. "BJP leaders in the state are hurling charges on the CM with an ulterior motive. If they have any evidence or documents, let them produce before the judicial commission set up to probe the charges," Singh later said giving clean chit to Siddaramaiah.
The former Madhya Pradesh CM said that the government took decision as per the guidelines laid down by the Karnataka High Court. "The land acquisition officers in BDA have been given quasi-judicial powers in 2010 and all the decision were taken by them. Neither the CM nor any minister had given direction or intervened in the functioning of the BDA in this regard," Singh said.
