This week’s couple: Talk about ex

Most people will tell you that it’s never a good idea to talk about exes on a first date. But for Josh, 30, and Emily, 27, this wasn’t an issue.

Old flames came up at their dinner at 212 Steakhouse in Midtown, but their back-and-forth never got heated. They enjoyed some fantastic Kobe beef — and some pretty great conversation.

So great, in fact, that they decided to keep chatting and head to a bar for a nightcap. While Josh and Emily didn’t exchange numbers, we have a feeling they’ll find a way to keep the conversation going in the future.

Josh was very charming and funny from the beginning. Our small talk was so interesting that we didn’t even need to rely on the usual biographical queries of where did you grow up, go to school, etc.

We were well taken care of at 212 Steakhouse. The service was impeccable and the food was beyond great. While we could have spent the whole meal making small talk about Kobe beef and what an experience the food was, we didn’t.

We talked about family, friends, and cheesy things like hopes and dreams. The discussion even veered into the personal –— including exes — but it felt natural.

We actually grabbed a drink after dinner, but unfortunately, I left in a rush before we exchanged numbers. Still, it was a perfectly enjoyable date.

When I first met Emily, I had a good feeling about her. She was cautious about this whole situation — I was too -— but very warm and friendly.

Emily is an interesting person. She seems to have a great career as a publicist, with an equally great life outside of it.

The food at 212 Steakhouse, especially the Kobe beef, was fantastic. Emily grew up on a cattle ranch — yet another interesting thing about her — so she had high standards for beef. She was as impressed as I was.

I liked how easily the conversation flowed with Emily. We broke a first-date rule and talked about our exes, but it was fine and helped me understand her better.

We didn’t exchange numbers (the goodbye happened quickly), but I had a really great time with Emily. I’d love to hang out with her again.
