NASHIK: The officials of the city traffic department will soon be conducting a survey across the city to check for points where there is a need to block the roads to keep the important routes free from flow of people or vehicles during the Kumbha Mela.
Deputy commissioner of police Nisar Tamboli (headquarters) held a meeting with the senior officials of the city traffic department on Saturday for the preparation of the department in the run-up to the religious congregation.

Tamboli said that apart from the Shahi marg which would be used by the sadhus to reach Ramkund for the holy bath, there would be various other routes which the pilgrims and the locals would take to reach the river banks to take a holy dip.
"Thus, we will have to ensure that certain roads are barricaded and certain others are left free for the movement of the pilgrims. A survey of such points has been taken up by the traffic personnel. Further, the traffic police will also have to liaison with the highway police to ensure that the highway traffic is diverted to specific areas to avoid chaos during the days of the parvanis," said Tamboli.
The DCP added that a large number of traffic police would be needed to see to it that the roads meant for the sadhus and the pilgrims were free from any clutter or obstruction. Nearly 10,000 personnel are expected to descend in the city for the purpose of bandobast for the Kumbh Mela. The police have already imparted basic training to the officers and the constables and the role of the personnel during the parvani days.
Senior officials said soon they would start taking dress rehearsals of the police officials and the constables in the run-up to the mega event so that the personnel concerned got used to all sorts of possibilities during Kumbh and knew their role to the T in any given situation.
