Global Improvement for Marketing Sector

January 23 2015

The year 2015 is starting with marketers in buoyant mood, according to the Global Marketing Index (GMI) compiled by WARC sister company World Economics. Individual ratings for trading conditions, marketing budgets and staffing levels all showed positive movement.

Global Improvement for Marketing SectorThe Index tracks current conditions among marketers and their expectations in the three areas, through a monthly survey. January's headline GMI was up by 2.6 points on December to 57.7 - led by The Americas (up 4.1 points to 57.3). Europe's overall index was up 1.8 to 58.1 and Asia Pacific up 1.5 to 58.5.

The trading conditions indices continue to ride high - Europe's dipped slightly, down 0.9 points to 57.9, but is still good, while the Americas saw a rise of 5.3 to 59.4 and Asia Pacific 2.0 to 61.4. The index for global marketing budgets rose for the 25th month in succession - up 1.8 points to 55.6 - this was most marked in Europe (up 2.9 to 58.2, close to its September 2014 high water mark) and The Americas (up 2.6 to 53.1). In the Asia Pacific region, it was little changed (down 0.1 to 56.3).

The staffing level index rose 3.6 points to 58.2 globally: employment levels are rising fastest in The Americas and Asia Pacific.

The Index was developed by World Economics: WARC took over its management until September 2014 when it was handed back to World Economics.
