Inter Milan midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri is fired up for Sunday's home match against Torino with his team looking to climb up in the Serie A table.

The Switzerland international scored his first goal for Inter in Wednesday's 2-0 triumph over Sampdoria that allowed the Nerazzurri to progress to the quarter-finals of the Copa Italia.

Shaqiri, who earned his first start against Samp since joining the Milan club from Bayern Munich last week, told the Italian press: "I'm delighted to have scored my first goal for Inter. We handed a good team display against Samp.

"Now we must give continuity to this result."

Inter coach Roberto Mancini was impressed by the performances of recent signings Shaqiri and Lukas Podolski against Sampdoria.

Podolski, who moved to Inter from Arsenal earlier this month, provided the assist for Shaqiri to get on the scoresheet.

"I'm pleasantly surprised by Shaqiri's class and personality," Mancini said. "I'm happy that Shaqiri and Podolski played a good game against Samp.

"We know the two of them are behind in terms of fitness and we expect a lot from them.

"With respect to the rest of the team, we can certainly improve.

"I believe we can play better."

Inter are ninth in Serie A, seven points behind third-place Napoli, who hold the last Champions League qualifying spot.

The Nerazzurri have drawn three of their last four league games, including Saturday's goalless result at Empoli.

Torino coach Giampiero Ventura will have all of his players available for selection, with the exception of Brazilian defender Bruno Peres, who must serve a one-match ban this weekend.

The Granata are riding a six-match unbeaten run heading into the encounter at the San Siro.

Last weekend's 3-2 triumph at Cesena, courtesy of Maxi Lopez's last-gasp winner, lifted to them 13th position, four points adrift of Sunday's rivals.

Lopez, who signed for Toro from Chievo last week, could earn his first start against Inter.

The hosts will be without defender Juan Jesus and midfielder Gary Medel, both suspended.
