The Jamnagar district and sessions court on Friday sentenced a man to life imprisonment for murdering his friend in Kalavad town of Jamnagar three years ago.
Delivering its verdict, the court of additional sessions judge PJ Agraval pronounced Ajim Yusf Surya guilty of murdering his friend Imran Patel. The court relied mainly on the testimony of an eye-witness who had taken the victim to the hospital after the accused assaulted him.
Assitant Public Prosecutor (APP) Jaman Bhanderi said the court also relied on testimonies of 29 other witnesses and 25 documents submitted as evidence. During the course of investigation, police had also seized the knife with which Surya stabbed Patel to death.
The murder was result of a minor tiff 23-year-old Patel had with his friend Surya while watching a movie in Girnar Cinema in Rajkot city. The two parties, however, met the next day on November 25, 2011 in their hometown of Kalavad to patch up. It was at this meeting that Surya stabbed Patel in throat and other parts of his body.
Patel’s brother Soab had registered a complaint with Kalavad police station in this regard.
The prosecution also sought compensation since the victim used to run a shop of bettle nuts and that his parents were dependent on him. However, the court rejected this plea.
