FEROZEPUR: Border Security Force (BSF) seized 13kg heroin, one pistol, one magazine and four cartridges, near Satpal border outpost under Ferozepur sector late on Thursday night.
BSF deputy inspector general, Ferozepur range, R K Thapa, said that their security personnel were on high alert following intelligence inputs regarding threat of smuggling from Satpal BOP. "On the intervening night of January 22 and 23, a patrolling party of 105 Battalion of BSF spotted some suspicious movement of Pakistan smugglers ahead of the border fence.
BSF troops challenged them but they did not pay any heed and continued their aggressive posture besides firing on them. BSF personnel also opened fire in self-defence. However, smugglers managed to escape taking cover of foggy weather and darkness," said DIG Thapa.
He said during search of the area, 13 packets of heroin along with a pistol, a magazine and four cartridges were recovered near the border fence. The seized heroin is valued Rs 65 crore in the international market, said the officer.
