HISAR: In a novel decision to protect the girl child, sarpanch of Agroha village in Hisar district has decreed that if someone from village was found guilty for female foeticide, panchayat would order social boycott of the whole family. Village sarpanch Omprakash Siwach made this announcement while starting the 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao' campaign in the village.
Omprakash said, "After discussion with other members of the village, we have decided that we will not let anyone kill unborn girls.
I am sure that this will motivate other villages too."
He said the family of those held guilty of aborting female foetus would be barred from social interaction with all other residents of the village. "I cite the example of international athlete Krishna Poonia, who hails from our village, to motivate the residents to protect and nurture their girls," Siwach said.
As per the 2011 Census, sex ratio of Agroha was 898 women per 1,000 men, bit higher than the Haryana average of 879. However, the child sex ratio (0-6 years) in the village is 798:1,000 much below the state average of 834.
