To expand base and create prospects for BJP, ABVP plans ‘chhatra samvad’ in 2,400 colleges

The events will communicate the ‘nationalist’ ideology of RSS in the youths with eye on creating prospects for the BJP in the 2017 assembly polls.

Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the student wing of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), has planned expansion of its organisation in UP where it has been so far confined to less than half of total government-run institutes of higher education.

According to its office bearers, the ABVP functions in nearly 2,000 of the 4,400 degree colleges in UP. In a bid to create teams in rest of the 2400 colleges, it has decided to hold six “Chhatra Samvad” (interaction with students) in next two months beginning January 24 from Fatehpur district.

“At least two students from each degree college in every region will be selected as part of this campaign. We will tell them how ABVP can help in redressing these grievances,” said Dharampal Singh, ABVP general secretary of UP and Uttarakhand.

In Fatehpur, at least 500 students from nearly 250 degree colleges in Kanpur region would attend the meet. Delhi University student union president Mohit Nagar will be the guest speaker.

The ABVP will then hold the next ‘Chhatra Samvad’ on January 25 in Lucknow where ABVP national co-organisation secretary Shree Niwas and Mohit Nagar will address the students from nearly 350 colleges in Awadh region on Lucknow University campus.

Festive offer

Similarly, the event will be held in Gorakhpur, Meerut, Agra and Allahabad, too.

Dharampal said the contact details and e-mail address of the participating students are being collected so that ABVP could remain in touch with them in future. He added that they also plan to hold a state-level convention of ABVP’s district committee members in Lucknow on February 22 where workers would be given responsibility of supervising the organisational activities at least in four colleges.
