Krishnagiri: In a comical twist of events at a wedding hall in Krishnagiri, a jilted lover tried to kidnap the bride while the groom quietly tied the knot with another girl on Friday.
It looked like the climax scene straight from a Tamil masala movie.
The wedding hall at Kuralhotti village near Shoolagiri was decked up for the wedding of S. Ramesh, 25, with S. Anitha, 19 on Friday morning.
The bride and groom had arrived on the stage in their wedding robe and so had scores of guests.
Just minutes before the groom was to tie the knot, a 23-year-old youth, S. Madesh, stormed in and tried to kidnap the bride. He claimed he and Anitha were in love and tried to tie the mangalsutra around her neck.
However, relatives of the bride pounced on him and gave him a sound thrashing.
A depressed Madesh pulled out a bottle of poison from his shirt pocket and drank it even as the guests looked on helplessly. Madesh was admitted to Shoolagiri government hospital.
As his condition turned serious, he was shifted to the Krishnagiri General Hospital.
Meanwhile, the marriage was stopped and a bitter wrangle between the families of the bride and groom followed at the wedding hall.
Finally, the groom walked away with a new bride — Divya, 20, of Matharasanapalli village, near Shoolagiri of Krishnagiri district in Tamil Nadu.
