Labourers demand basic rights

BANNU - A Grand Jirga of Bannu Woollen Mills Welfare Union and People's Labour Bureau was held in the new Sabzi Mandi, Bannu district. A large number of labourers of the Bannu Woollen Mills participated in the jirga.
Addressing the jirga, leaders of the labour union said that labour class greatly contributes in the development of Pakistan, therefore the government must ensure provision of all basic rights to them. "No society can make progress without ensuring basic rights to labour class," they added. They said that the country is being run by the labourers and depriving them of basic rights will lead to the collapse of entire system.  On this occasion, Jamaat Islamic (JI) District President Mufti Sifatullah, while addressing the Jirga, assured the labourers that the provincial government is not oblivious to their problems. He said that JI would put problems of the labour class before the provincial government authorities for their resolution. At the end, the Grand Jirga demanded the government to ensure provision of educational facilities to their children, scholarships, death grant, restoration of medical allowances and minimum wage of Rs15,000, as announced by the provincial government.
