Nagoba Jatara concludes

January 24, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:47 am IST - ADILABAD:

The Mesram clan of Gonds on Friday bid adieu to serpent god Nagoba after a month-long activity involving religious and cultural rituals, culminating in the eventful five-day Nagoba jatara at Keslapur village in Indervelli mandal.

The Mesram Gonds will now return to their villages or will proceed towards Shampur village in neighbouring Utnoor mandal for the Budumdev jatara, which begins on Saturday night with traditional puja.

Mesram Gonds performed the betaal puja that incorporates Mandal Gajili, a brief show of their martial skills. Betaal being the Gond god of war, the puja is essentially performed on the last day of the jatara.

Families in Mesram clan share the sacred earthen pots, besides the prasadam comprising coconuts and puffed rice, which is collected by way of offering from devotees. The amusement and shopping part of the jatara will continue till January 27.
