‘Convention centre to be developed on MICE model’

January 24, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:46 am IST - Bengaluru:

The international convention centre, proposed to come up near the Kempegowda International Airport in Devanahalli, will be developed on the lines of the MICE convention centre in Delhi, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has said.

He was speaking after inaugurating the golden jubilee celebrations of the Karnataka State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (KSSIDC) in the city on Friday.

Mr. Siddaramaiah said the existing design of the proposed convention centre had to be altered to develop it on lines of MICE convention centre.

“Although the city has gained popularity as an industrial centre of international standards, it does not have a world-class convention centre,” the Chief Minister said.

The KSSIDC, in the last 50 years, had extended financial support to the tune of Rs. 2,200 crore as loans.

Speaking about the government’s new industrial policy, Mr. Siddaramaiah said an international manufacturing and investment zone was being planned in Tumakuru to attract global investors.
