DD is host broadcaster for National Games

Doordarshan, the country’s national broadcaster, has been declared the host broadcaster for the upcoming National Games.

As per an agreement signed with the Games’ organising committee, DD would have the exclusive broadcasting rights of all events in the National Games, a press note issued here said.

The games will be covered 24X7 by DD Sports.

The events, which are being held in 27 venues across seven districts in Kerala, would be covered live or as ‘deferred live’ on DD Sports channel.

The opening ceremony will be telecast live on January 31 on DD National, DD Sports and DD Malayalam from 6 p.m. till the end of the ceremony.

A similar arrangement will be in place for the closing ceremony. While DD Sports will give live/deferred live telecasts,

DD Malayalam will telecast the games from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with a half-hour break for news at 1 p.m. A daily highlights package will be telecast from 10 p.m. to 11 p.m. and will be retelecast at 8 a.m. the following day.

DD will provide live coverage of athletics, aquatics, tennis, gymnastics, football, volleyball, shooting, kabbadi, table tennis, badminton, basketball, weightlifting, boxing and hockey. The opening and closing ceremonies, athletics, aquatics and gymnastics will be covered by high definition multi-camera OB vans.

OB vans

Doordarshan will deploy eight multi-camera OB vans, 12 DSNG vans, 25 ENG units and 15 non-linear edit units from various parts of the country, the press note said. More than 600 personnel with experience in covering similar events will man these equipment.

In addition to this, DD will also utilise the services of senior commentators who would reach the various venues by the end of January. DD Malayalam will field various celebrities and also produce 40 short films saluting the legends of Kerala’s sporting history.
