Rural Internet connectivity to be complete in six months

January 24, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:47 am IST - Kozhikode:

Minister for Industries and Information Technology (IT) P.K. Kunhalikutty has said that total rural Internet connectivity will become a reality in the State in six months.

The Minister was speaking after launching a Rs.1-crore scholarship programme — IT Stars — conceived and implemented by the National Youth Promotion Council (NYPC) with the support of G-TEC group of institutions to make select youth employable in the IT sector.

Mr. Kunhalikutty said the State would be achieving the covetable title by completing all the technical procedures on fast track. “For other States, it will take at least 25 years to achieve the current growth status of Kerala in the IT sector, IT education and its expansion to even remote villages,” he observed.

He said the IT boom in Kerala was the result of the Akshaya project launched in 2002, which familiarised thousands of illiterate people with computer technologies and internet usage.
