Special team to probe murder of DYFI worker

Police arrest four Muslim League activists

A special team led by Nadapuram Deputy Superintendent of Police (Dy.SP) Prajeesh Thottathil will probe the case of the murder of a Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) activist by an armed gang at Thooneri, near Nadapuram, in Kozhikode district on Thursday midnight.

Investigators have arrested four persons, K. Suhaib, 18; Mohammed Haneefa, 19; Mohammed Haseeb, 20; and V. Siddique, 30; all workers of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML). The Nadapuram police, which registered a case, have charged them with Sections 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder), 142(unlawful assembly), 147( rioting) , 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapons) and 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object) of the Indian Penal Code.  

Dinendra Kashyap, DIG,  Kannur Range, told The Hindu here on Friday that preliminary investigation had revealed that the incident was “partly communal and partly political.”
