In neglected Chhatarpur, AAP promises pucca homes, roads

Chhatarpur candidate Kartar Singh said, “I do not mind going to jail if it is for the good of my people.”

In Bhagirath Nagar near Bhatti mines in Chhatarpur constituency, promises of free WiFi and CCTV cameras mean little to the residents of these unauthorised colonies. No wonder then that the AAP refrain here is of better roads, pucca houses and freehold rights.

At a jan sahba on Friday, AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal said, “I noticed the situation while coming here to speak to all of you. I noticed the roads and the area that does not have even the basic amenities.”

Accusing BJP of razing jhuggis, Kejriwal promised pucca houses for slum dwellers of Chhatarpur, Deoli and Sangam Vihar constituencies on Friday. He also promised freehold rights to 15 lakh residents of 45 resettlement colonies at affordable rights.

The AAP chief did not forget to take a dig at ‘Modi sarkar’. “The BJP has demolished slums in Rangpuri, Wazirpur and several other places. The PM razed slums and said they will build pucca colonies by 2023. But until that time, where will the people whose houses have been demolished live,” he asked.

Emphasising on the need for development of such areas, AAP’s Chhatarpur candidate Kartar Singh Tanwar said, “I do not mind going to jail if it is for the good of my people.”

Festive offer

Tanwar, who was a sitting BJP councillor, had recently jumped ship.

Addressing a jan sabha in the slums of Sangam Vihar and Deoli, Kejriwal spoke of water woes and high electricity rates. “I assure you all that what we have done in 10 months, we will continue doing for the next five years. All you have to do is convert our 49 days into five years through your votes,” he said.
