GREATER NOIDA: Six armed assailants broke into a house in Greater Noida’s Dadri area late on Thursday night, held a family at gunpoint and stole about 50 grams of gold, 250 grams of silver, Rs 26,000 cash and other valuables from their house. A case has been registered at the Dadri police station.
According to police, the assailants had scaled the boundary wall of the house in Kot village when the owner, Attarpal, was sleeping.
They held him hostage at gunpoint, locked all the family members in one room and ransacked the house. “When Attarpal resisted, they thrashed him with the rifle butt,” said a senior police officer. Attarpal was admitted to Navin Hospital where he is undergoing treatment.
In their statement to police, the family members also said that the assailants were wearing masks, and that the gang was carrying both small weapons and a rifle.
Police visited the spot on Friday with a forensic team and a sniffer dog squad but till late evening they could not apprehend any suspect.
Initial investigation suggested that the robbers were known to the family and knew about the quantity of gold and silver in their house. “We are also suspecting the role of an insider. We have identified some people close to the family. They have been questioned,” the officer added.
Investigations pointed to the robbers having used a car, police said. “We are waiting for Attarpal to recover so that his statement can be recorded. The family members have not yet mentioned any suspects but before Attarpal’s statement we cannot give a clean chit to anyone,” the officer said.
