Two construction labourers were killed and another injured after the basement of an under-construction building collapsed in South Delhi’s Saket area on Friday evening.
Police said the dead, Tausheen (27) and Kara (35), were working at the site when the wall collapsed, burying them. “Around seven labourers were digging a basement in J Block area, when the incident happened. It appears that the soil loosened due to the rain and the wall crumbled. While Tausheen and Kara were completely buried, other labourers were stuck inside. They were rescued by residents and rushed to hospital. The fire department and civil defence personnel also rushed to the spot,” a senior officer said.
Residents said civil engineers at the site had warned the contractor about the loose soil but no action was taken. An inquiry has been initiated, police said.
