HNS Signs for itself

HNS Signs has taken inspiration from a range of different areas to create its new internal sign, as well as demonstrating what can be done with re-used materials.

Pics by Lumina Studios: HNS Signs used reclaimed wood from pallets and offcuts of foam to create its new sign, which has been a great hit with its customers

Inspired by a colourful illuminated bar in New Zealand, the HNS team took the colours from the company’s logo and applied them to the edges of reclaimed wood from pallets.

The letters were cut out on a CNC using as many offcuts of 20cm foam as possible, hollowed out, and LEDs from Perspex Distribution were inserted. They then laser cut offcuts of 3mm clear acrylic to form the halo.

We have already had a couple of enquiries for something similar

Michelle Henry, founder and managing director of HNS Signs, says: "We took our inspiration from a café in Wellington, New Zealand. They had a bar made from mahogany wood with mahogany timbers bolted onto it. The side of these were painted in bright colours. We loved that the colours were not obvious head on and that they only became obvious from the side view."

Though HNS has been trying to persuade customers of the possibilities of recycled material signs, it had been hard to get them excited.

However, Henry says about the sign: “Our customers love it. It has been shared on Facebook and been received well on Twitter. We have already had a couple of enquiries for something similar."
