Delhi skipper Gautam Gambhir missed out on a hundred as the visitors conceded a slender 23-run first innings lead against Maharashtra in a Ranji Trophy cricket match in Pune on Friday.

In reply to Maharashtra’s first innings score of 330, Delhi were all-out for 307 after starting the day at a relatively comfortable 240 for four.

Maharashtra have reached 187 for five in their second innings with an overall lead of 210 runs and would be looking to play out the day to bag three points.

Skipper Gambhir, who started the day on 93, could add only one run to his individual score as seamer Chirag Khurana dismissed him caught by Dominic Joseph in the second over of the third day.

Gambhir’s 94 off 222 balls had seven fours and a six and he added 92 runs with another veteran Rajat Bhatia (65).

Saurashtra beat Haryana by 62 runs

Left-arm spinner Dharmendrasinh Jadeja took six wickets and helped Saurashtra to register their first outright victory in the ongoing Ranji Trophy season, when they beat Haryana by 62 runs on the third and penultimate day of their Group “B” cricket match in Rajkot on Friday.

Sheldon Jackson was top scored for Saurashtra making 64 runs, while Jaydev Shah made 56.

Chasing a target of 226 runs to win, Haryana kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Yadav (35), Rahul Tewatia (34) and Himanshu Rana (28) put some resistance against the Jadeja-Makwana duo while six Haryana batsmen failed to reach double digit mark.

With this win, Saurashtra earned six points.

Shrivastava’s century gives Vidarbha a chance for a win

Shalabh Shrivastava struck his second century of the season as the the Ranji Trophy cricket match between Vidarbha and Gujarat headed for an interesting finish in Surat on Friday.

At stumps, Vidarbha were 307 for 8, with a healthy lead of 295 with Shrivastava hitting a 204-ball 101 on the third and penultimate day at the Lalabhai Contractor Stadium.

Shrikant Wagh and Akshay Wakhare were batting on 20 and 7 at close of play on Friday.

Rajasthan run through Odisha for bonus point win

Rajasthan romped past Odisha by 10 wickets to win with a bonus point on day three of the Ranji Trophy Group B cricket match in Balangir on Friday.

Rajasthan now have 17 points from seven matches including two wins, as many losses and three draws. Odisha lie at the bottom with eight points from six matches.
