GoDaddy on Friday announced the appointment of a key leadership position that it hopes will bolster its presence throughout Canada.

Jill Schoolenberg will take on the role of vice president of Canada, an assignment that will see the Microsoft MSN veteran tasked with attracting more Canadian SMBs to the platform.

"Canada is a key market for GoDaddy and will continue to be as we extend our offerings globally," GoDaddy EVP James Carroll said in a statement.

Over the last several years, the Scottsdale, Arizona-based small business hosting and cloud services provider has put significant effort toward international expansion, focusing much of its efforts on Latin America and Europe.

GoDaddy now offers products and support in 42 markets and 17 languages. The newly supported languages include French, Dutch, German, Italian, Russian, Turkish, Polish, Swedish, Portuguese, Norwegian, Danish, Finnish, Ukrainian and Greek.

Apart from moving into international markets, GoDaddy's growth strategy has also included several key acquisitions designed to diversify and strengthen its portfolio. Last August, the company bought the email marketing startup Mad Mimi. Prior to that, other acquisitions include the online bookkeeping service Outright, mobile website creation resource M.dot, promotional service Locu, and domain registry Afernic.
