Andy Lee’s first world title defence once again looks set to be against Billy Joe Saunders after the WBO called for purse bids to be held next Tuesday, 27 January for the fight between the pair.

Saunders had stood aside to allow Lee to face Russian Matt Korobov for the vacant title on 13 December in Las Vegas, but was the mandatory challenger for the winner of that fight once he beat Chris Eubanks Jnr.

It had been reported this week that Lee might make his first defence of his title against Peter Quillin in the US in April, rather than the expected bout against Saunders.

However, the WBO has now called for purse bids for the Lee-Saunders fight, with a minimum bid of $200,000.
