Shimla: Cold wave conditions further intensified in Himachal following fresh snowfall and heavy rains in some parts of the state even as Shimla witnessed the coldest night of the season with a low of minus 2 degrees.
Tribal areas and higher hills experienced fresh snowfall while mid and lower hills received widespread rains.
Shimla which received 4 cm of snow and 21 mm rainfall shivered under piercing?cold wave conditions as icy winds lashed the region and sky remained overcast.
High altitude tribal areas received moderate to heavy snowfall while mid and higher areas, including key tourist resorts of Kufri, Narkanda, Manali, Sangla and Chitkul, had moderate snowfall.
Upper reaches of Manali and Rohtang Pass received 50-60 cm of fresh snowfall?while Bharmaur recorded 20 cm of snow, followed by Sangla 12 cm, Kalpa and?Udaipur 9 cm, Keylong 7 mm, Narkanda, Moorang, Nichar, Kharapatthar and?Mashobra 5 mm.
Heavy intermittent rains lashed the mid and lower hills and Una was wettest with 44 mm rains followed by Palampur 39 mm, Hamirpur 38 mm, Bangana 36 mm, Dharampur and Kasauli 32 mm each, Sujanpur and Tira 31 mm.
While Nadaun received 29 mm rainfall, Chail and Berthin received 28 mm each.
Mehre, Gohar and Kasol recorded 27 mm rainfall while Kotipura and Dharamshala recorded 25 mm, Jubbarhatti 24 mm, Arki 23 mm, Kahu, Jubbal, Manali and Kheri 21 mm each.
The high altitude areas reeled under arctic conditions with mercury staying 15 to 22 degrees below the freezing point while Kalpa and Keylong recorded a low of minus 6 degree and minus 3.5 degrees respectively.
Manali recorded a low of minus 1.6 degrees followed by Dharamsala 3.4 degrees, Palampur 3.5 degrees, Bhuntar 4.5 degrees, Una and Solan 5.5 degrees, Sundernagar 6.6 degrees and Nahan 8.1 degree Celsius.
The maximum day temperatures dropped by one to two degrees and stayed below normal across the state.
The local MeT office has predicted dry weather over the next two days and more snow January 26 onwards as a fresh feeble Western Disturbance as an upper air system would affect then.
