PATIALA: Uttaranchal resident Devi Singh, the fourth accused involved in the sensational 2004 Burail Jail break, who escaped along with three assassins of former Punjab CM Beant Singh, is currently living in Pakistan and has converted to Sikhism.
This was confirmed by Khalistan Tiger Force (KTF) terrorist Jagtar Singh Tara, who was nabbed by Indian security agencies from Thailand recently, revealed a senior police officer associated with the probe.

Significantly, Indian security agencies had the information that Devi didn't move out of Pakistan since he sneaked into that country after the escape from Burial jail by digging a 104-feet tunnel. Three of the four accused in the jail break, have already been arrested by Punjab police, and Devi is still on the run.
Although all the three accused in Beant Singh murder case -- Jagtar Singh Tara, Paramjit Singh Bheora and Jagtar Singh Hawara -- remained in the news for various reasons, Devi hardly grabbed headlines in all these years.
"Devi Singh, during his stay in Pakistan, had converted to Sikhism and also changed his name. It is learnt that he is running a small dairy farm in a Pakistan town," said a senior police officer requesting anonymity.
He said Devi was least tracked as he was the "least important" for cops. "He is not an ideologue of sorts. So catching him was never a major motive of security agencies. Compared to him, Tara, Bheora and Hawara were more important for us," he added.

Devi, resident of Chamouli district in Uttaranachal, was serving life sentence in Burial Jail in a murder case. He was not related to Beant Singh assassination case. He was sharing barrack with Tara, Hawara and Bheora and reportedly used to cook food for them.
After escaping from Burail, he remained in touch with Tara and both of them together moved to Pakistan via Nepal after staying over a year in India.
