Snarl-free Dwarka Circle in sight

NASHIK: A smooth drive is in sight for motorists who are tired of driving through the perennial traffic snarls at the busy Dwarka circle.
The toll company, which has widened the highway and constructed the elevated corridors between Pimpalgaon and Gonde, will start levelling of the road in front of the four ramps at Dwarka circle, which has been left undone for the past many months.

Sources in the toll company said the work of levelling the road would begin in February. After the fly-over over Dwarka was constructed, the toll company had made four ramps at the Dwarka junction to the elevated corridor to take the fly-over towards Mumbai or Dhule and to descend at the junction to enter the city while coming from the either side of the highway.
The toll company had also constructed traffic islands in front of the four ramps to ensure order in the flow of vehicles while taking the flyover of descending from it. But on finding that the traffic congestion was a frequent phenomenon at the junction, it was decided to remove the traffic islands in front of the four ramps to increase the width of the main carriageway by two lanes and construct a 1.2-metre thick median to separate the main carriageway from the service road. Beside the median, the company also decided to leave a lane exclusively for autorickshaws and taxies operating from Dwarka Circle.

It has been over four to five months that the traffic islands have been removed and the concerned patches were left as they are after removing the traffic islands. Sources from the toll company said that there were some technical problems in starting the work and they had decided to take up the work of work of re-surfacing the road in front of the ramps in February.
An official said that the asphalting work would not take more than two weeks. Further, the construction company has also decided to finish the work of the ingress point in front of hotel Seven Heaven so that motorists on the service road have a chance to take main carriageway towards Mumbai from the said ingress point than driving all the way till the Nehru Van Udyan, 10 kms from the hotel, to take the main carriageway.
Officials in the toll company said that both the works would be over within the first three weeks of February.
