Sand baron surrenders before court

MADURAI: A fortnight after Madras high court granted anticipatory bail to him, industrialist and beach sand mining baron S Vaikundarajan surrendered before a CBI court here to complete AB formalities on Thursday. He was accompanied by his brother S Jagadeesan.
The brothers, who are partners of V V Mineral Company, were charged with paying a bribe of Rs 8.23 crore to A Subbiah, who was chairman of VOC Port Trust in Tuticorin at that time.

Their first anticipatory bail was refused by high court on November 17, 2014. The duo again moved the court on December 19.
On January 7, however, Justice P N Prakash granted them anticipatory bail with conditions. The judge directed them to surrender before the CBI court and to execute a bond for Rs 5 lakh with two sureties each to avail themselves of the benefit. They shall report before the investigating officer twice a day for a period of four weeks, as per high court order.
