UKHRUL, January 22: Amid the rush for enrolment in the Aadhar Card under the National Population Registration (NPR) which is currently underway at Ukhrul Mini Secretariat, frequent power failure continues to hamper the very process rendering the officials idle for most part of the working days.

This sorry state of affairs came to light when this IFP correspondent conducted an independent survey following the disgruntled public`™s complaint that the registration process is moving at a snail`™s pace even as a large number of people are queuing up each working day to get enrolled in the Aadhar programme at the two centres opened inside the Mini secretariat complex.

In an interaction, supervisor of In-Media, a private firm which has been engaged for the job, Konsam Chinglensana disclosed that due to frequent power interruption, the process for enrolling people in the Aadhaar program has been severely hampered, while adding that `We cannot help since it is not our responsibility to ensure availability of regular power.`

He further informed that the process was started in the district on January 13 last adding that in the beginning they could enrol a total of 25 persons in a working day at average but since the past 2/3 days their work has been disrupted by frequent power failure.

He said that given that there is uninterrupted power supply they could manage to enrol a maximum of 40 persons a day but unless there is regular power we cannot fulfil the target.

Another In-Media supervisor, Lalindro said that currently they are taking less than 30 persons in a day which is the target number of the government for enrolment in a single working day.

`We are working solely with three computer systems of which one is being used at the centre inside the east block which covers Kasom Khullen, Phungyar, Kamjong and Chingai sub-divisions while two at the centre covering Ukhrul centre and Longchong Maiphai sub-divisions inside the north block of the mini secretariat complex.
