Many persons of the Tamil Nadu Government Employees’ Association boycotted work and went on leave en masse across the district in support of their demands to be fulfilled by government.

Attendance in offices of government organisations was thin. As per the association’s demands, the employees sought the implementation of the Seventh Pay Commission to benefit them on a par with Central government employees. Besides, the government should increase dearness allowance and merge with salaries. Moreover, many vacancies had still been existing in government organisations and it was high time to fill those vacancies, they said.

Efforts should also be made to replace the old pension benefit scheme with the existing pension scheme for the employees, sources from the association said. The government should also ponder over the economic conditions of Makkal Nala Paniyalargal, who were sacked abruptly, and reinstate them. Around 3000 employees of this association went on leave in the district. Similarly, scores of government employees also went on mass leave in Tirunelveli district.
