Transgenders stage demonstration

The transgenders affiliated to the Salem Tirunangaigal Nala Sangam staged a demonstration in front of the Collectorate here on Thursday protesting against the Tamil film ‘I’.

They were protesting against what they claimed was a humiliating portrayal of the community.

‘Remove

scenes’

The film has portrayed the transgenders in an insulting manner, they alleged and raised slogans demanding the removing of the entire insulting scenes.

They also demanded an unconditional apology from the director of the film.

Jeevamma Nayak and Vijayamma Nayak, Jamath leaders, led the agitation. P. Pooja, president of the Sangam, Revathi and Priya Babu, writers, Madhubarathi, president of the Tamil Nadu Progressive Writers and Artistes Association, E. Ramakrishnan, vice president of the Kalai Ilakkiya Perumanram and others spoke in support of the demand of the transgenders.
