The Mattannur police on Thursday registered a case in connection with an incident on Wednesday of intimidation of Nair Service Society (NSS) workers by alleged Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] workers when they reached the house of a party worker to place a wreath on a deceased member of the family.
The case was registered following a complaint by office-bearers of the Mundayod Karayogam, near Mattannur. The Karayogam members were allegedly blocked by suspected CPI(M) workers when they were on their way to the house of the bereaved family to place the wreath on the body of the deceased.
‘Not a party member’
NSS local leaders said the woman who had died was not a CPI(M) member. According to NSS sources, the CPI(M) workers were apparently inspired by CPI(M) leader M.V. Govindan’s recent public speech against community organisations.
