January 23, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:49 am IST - GUNTUR:

At least two persons returning after a court’s hearing sustained injuries after a rival group hurled smoke bombs at their jeep at Papayapalem in Bellamkonda mandal on Thursday afternoon.

The impact could have been severe had country made bombs were used. According to police, persons accused of killing the father of a TDP sarpanch, were returning to their village after attending the court at Sattenapalli. In November 2014, a group led by Achhi Reddy killed Singam Venkatrami Reddy at Papayapalem. Followers of the sarpanch have been waiting for an opportunity to avenge the killing. On Thursday, the group led by Acchi Reddy was returning to their village when their rivals waylaid their jeep and hurled bombs. Two persons including Acchi Reddy were injured in the attack.
