Noting that it was important to popularise theatre among the children, Veteran children’s writer and Rajyotsava award winner Kanchyani has felt the need to provide a platform to children.

Speaking after presiding over the 12th district-level Kannada Sahitya Sammelan here on Thursday, here said merely making children read the plays was not enough, making them act was crucial as they enjoy it the most.

“To meet this objective, initiative should be taken to give a chance to the children to participate in plays and dramas, for which Bal Bhavans of the districts should be developed while theatre groups should encourage the activity,” Mr. Kanchyani said.

He said that language was not merely a mode of communication, but it was a depiction of the entire culture of a particular community and civilization.

Literature has the power to keep the world together in unity, he said.
