B. Sriramulu, MP, said that he was extremely disappointed with the laxity of the officials of the zilla panchayat regarding the implemention of various pro-people schemes of the Union government.

Mr. Sriramulu, who is also the chairman of the district-level vigilance committee, was reviewing the progress of the implementation of different schemes sponsored by the Central government here on Thursday.

“Some drinking water schemes, which were approved and for which the funds were released, have not commenced while the progress of the work of other drinking water schemes was tardy. The progress of the construction of houses under the Indira Awaas Yojana was far from satisfactory,” he said.

On being told that the person with a job card should apply to get employment under MGNREGA, Mr. Sriramulu sought to know what prevented officials from creating employment opportunities instead of waiting for the needy to approach them.
