As the swine flu toll is mounting, BJP president G. Kishan Reddy took a dig at the State government for giving a pass to the ‘Swachh Bharat’ initiative by the Centre.
At a press conference here on Thursday, Mr. Reddy said the Chief Minister, K. Chandrasekhar Rao, was issuing statements about lack of hygiene now, while ignoring the call of the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, for clean India.
He also criticised the government machinery’s failure to address the issue properly till the Chief Minister himself swung into action. The same situation prevailed in all departments, he said, referring to Mr. Rao’s visit to Warangal.
“The Chief Minister had to stay at Warangal for five days to issue pensions, and identify the housing beneficiaries. He went to Mahabubnagar and sanctioned one bore-well. Won’t things happen unless he is present?” he questioned. Making a mention of the fee reimbursement issue, Mr. Reddy advised the government to decide its priorities.
The government has to release fee reimbursement arrears of Rs. 850 crore for the previous academic year. Also, only two months were left in the current academic year and applications were not yet taken. Guidelines for the FAST scheme were yet to be framed.
Mr. Reddy demanded an all-party meeting to discuss swine flu and confidence building measures, and implementation of Swachh Bharath in Gandhi and Osmania Hospitals.
