Woman, five children missing
KANPUR: A 35-year-old woman and her five children are missing from Juhi locality in Barra since January 12.
According to Gaya Prasad Gautam, a resident of Baradevi, his daughter Shashi and five children in the age group of 2-10 years are untraceable. He has accused his son-in-law Anil behind the disappearance of his daughter and grand-children.
"I visited his house in Juhi on Monday last.
Not finding my daughter and her children at home, when I tried to question him, he misbehaved with me and threatened me of dire consequences," Gautam alleged.
After the death of her first husband 2002, Shashi got married to Anil in 2003. "She is of friendly nature. People in the neighbourhood know Shashi and her children but no one could recall seeing them with anyone," he said. Family members and relatives had searched for them in the adjoining areas besides shelter houses too but no one could provide information.
Gautam tried to lodge a complaint with Barra police but the cops refused to do so.
Shashi had complained to him about regular harassment by her husband. Later, they made up but the trouble could not be sorted out.
"Anil had asked her to leave the house with the children, which brings him under suspicion,” her sister Suman alleged.
Suman suspects that her brother-in-law is involved in their disappearance. "We are hoping for our sister and children to return unharmed," she said outside the office of SSP.
SHO Barra said that the matter will be investigated. Police are trying to locate the woman and her children missing since Monday. "We will also question her husband," he added.
